Infrastructure Ontario recently released an RFP for planning, design and compliance services for the Pan Am Athlete's Village. The buildings constructed must serve dual purposes of being home to the approximately 8,500 athletes & coaches participating in the 2015 Pan Am Games and then serving as 2,100 homes for renters, students and new home buyers following the games. The Athlete's Village will total approximately 2 million square feet with all facilities planned for LEED Gold. Infrastructure Ontario has broken the first stage project down to three parts: master plan and functional program; project planning & design; RFQ & RFP services. The design and construction RFP is scheduled to start in 2011. Some specific projects will include a 50,000 sqf welcome centre, 12,000 sqf media centre & 140,000 sqf 'transport mall' (these are planned as temporary structures). An accommodations building is planned at 1.4 million square feet. A 35,000 sqf recreation activity centre and 105,000 sqf recreation sports complex is planned. A 30,000 sqf village plaza is also planned. Waterfront Toronto will be working in partnership with Infrastructure Ontario during the procurement and evaluation of the planning proposals.
