From Ana Bailao's email newsletter:

During yesterday's TEYCC meeting, the committee approved the zoning by-law amendment application for the proposed long-term care home at 640 Lansdowne! This development will include 256 long-term care beds for seniors, and will also include 57 affordable rental units, as well as non-residential space on the ground floor.

Not only will this development meet the City's affordable housing objectives, of ensuring more affordable housing for seniors, but this project will also provide safe and affordable housing for a range of tenants in our City.

This will now need to be approved by the full City Council on July 19th.

Looks like it's going to tender
Hmmmm...? Did the neighbouring business-owner DROP their OLT appeal against this project..?

Pre-Merit Hearing was 'Adjourned' a few weeks ago - https://jus-olt-prod.powerappsporta...ails/?id=d4ac2c1a-a233-ed11-9db1-0022483dd266

Their OLT appeal was essentially a "shake-down" to force the City to give the neighbouring business-owner an EMPLOYMENT LANDS conversion, and they were using their OLT appeal against the Seniors Home as leverage in those discussions.

CBC - “Toronto council members and some in the city's Portuguese community are celebrating the upcoming construction of a new rental and long-term care building in the city's west end.

The new building, which will have 57 affordable rental apartments and 256 long-term care beds, is located on city land at 640 Lansdowne Avenue. It will be developed and operated by non-profit Magellan Community Charities, which builds and operates senior long-term care homes and affordable housing particularly for those in the Portuguese-Canadian community.”

Just a few pix to highlight that this development is in a really interesting area. Near Landsdowne subway station and the future GO station on Bloor it will also have a new multiuser trail running along the west side of the property. The commercial is welcome as there are several food related businesses on Landsdowne such as Solkatt, Debbie’s and Belem. I imagine that there are elvolving plans for the unused portions of this site as the carehome only uses a portion of the site. Taken 19 September.

Yup, the majority of the property is set aside for future employment uses (currently occupied by Metrolinx as a staging area for Davenport Diamond construction), as well as a new public park.

Thanks for sharing the photos! Just to be clear are you saying that the gelatin factory is also going to go the way of the dodo? Right now it borders the multi use trail being built. Thanks!
