Dear lord, that building needs some TLC before someone gets a demolition permit approved for it!
It had a poster of Nicolas Cage on it a couple weeks ago. That certainly qualifies as TLC in my eyes.

That building is something OCAP leaders bring up a lot. It was a rooming house until about a decade ago when the owner decided the land was worth more than the building and it has been sitting abandoned since. Basically one of the prime examples of why uncontrolled gentrification is terrible for a neighbourhood. I certainly don't see any reason this building should sit abandoned and rotting but for the greed of the owners. Even if they don't want to run a rooming house or apartment (which is their right) their holding on to this site in the hope the land value will continue to rise and the heritage building will rot and collapse is just disgusting imo, for a variety of reasons.

What, pray tell this uncontrolled gentrification that you speak of...

I believe there was once a development application in play for this specific site. It's actually heritage designated. If anything, it demonstrates that designation does not equal preservation and that demolition by neglect is a real thing. I guess the constituents in this riding have not made much of a fuss to warrant any attention by the councillor. It fascinates me that stollery's received such a public outcry when crap like this happens. There has got to be a building code violation or two that can be slapped on to this property to ensure that it actually has a chance to survive. Although a cited violation could be equally ineffective.

That building was a pretty sketchy bar for many years before they tried to turn into condos. The property is landlocked and none of the surrounding owners wanted to sell to build something bigger. Will make a great entrance for the Relief Line's Sherbourne Station some day.
