They seem to be doing all the same stuff at their new food hall at 1 York, and I have to say I've been disappointed with what I've tried so far. I've had a vindaloo from Curryosity, an eggplant parm sandwich from the Underground Sandwich, and a fried chicken sandwich from the Beauty's Chicken place, and all were decidedly mediocre.
Honestly I feel like food halls are a lot of hype and they often don't live up to it.

The idea seems to be lets get more independent places with cool branding, jack up the prices hugely compared to a typical food court, and promote it with influencers. Don't get me wrong I've had some good meals at food halls but more often than not they end up being not worth the extra money you pay. I'll be curious to see if 5 years from now it's a fad that's largely passed.

So it's just the same food court with new vendors?
Same in what sense?

It's at the same location but has been completely rebuilt and is under new management as well as new vendors.

I had lunch there today. It was busy, but easy enough to find a seat. The chicken rice from Eric Chong’s stall ($14) was decent, although the rice was a bit undercooked. I didn’t walk through the main food court at the Dundas end, so I don’t know whether the food hall diverts some business from the vendors there.

I would dispute that claim. Look at 2 queen West, a massive improvement. If they can do a reno like there this could be a upgrade 🙏
Definitely a massive improvement and one that is extremely well done.

But unfortunately for every one of those, there's a 401 Bay + Eaton Centre + Sherway Gardens. They've missed a lot more than they've hit.
