Construction continues on a 40-unit CityHousing building on Queenston Road at the east end traffic circle.
The six-storey building rises on the site of the former City Motor Hotel, which the city expropriated and demolished in 2013.
Of the 40 units, 25 are one-bedroom and 15 are three-bedroom. All of them are expected to be rent-geared-to-income.
Designed by Invizij Architects and built by Schilthuis Construction, the building will have commercial space on the ground floor.
Tenants are expected to move in by early 2025.
A second six-storey building with 42 units (38 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom) is also in the works for the Main Street side of the site.

Of those, 22 are expected to be rent-geared-to-income with the balance offered at “affordable market” rates, which are between 50 and 75 per cent of private market rents in Hamilton, CityHousing notes.
Designed by McCallum Sather and built by Melloul-Blamey, the mass-timber building is expected to be ready for tenants by mid-to-late 2025.
Both buildings are to be certified under Passive House Institute standards, making for low energy use and low green-house gas emissions while drawing on solar power for 20 per cent of their annual energy needs.
The combined budget for both buildings is roughly $48 million with funding drawn from a variety of sources, including CityHousing dollars, city grants as well as secured and anticipated federal contributions.

I wonder what kinda environment the tim hortons across the street is gonna be once this is done, it's already packed at all times..
