Toronto 2221 Yonge Condos | 192.62m | 58s | Tower Hill | Pei Partnership

Hmmm so now we have proposals from:
Frank Gehry
Sir Norman Foster
I M Pei
Will Alsop

All within a few months at that

I first heard about this project (architect & developer) 6 months ago. I think it looks great but is it as attractive as Freed's upcoming Yonge&Eglinton projects?

Another sobering thought: will it get built or is this another sign (as I tweeted last year) of a bubble burst coming?

dataBase entry is up

Floor plates are 5-sided - not your typical rectangular box

Yeah, you can slap the name "Pei" on it but I'm seeing another uniform design.

It's crappy proposals like these that (though it isn't entirely your typical glass box) end up absorbing the market and leave better looking buildings (like massey or ghery or oxford) having to deal with a declining market. What's the point of building something inspiring if buildings like these are being approved whereas ones that actually look like some effort was put into it are pushed to the curb.

In the renders, the Yonge-facing podium doesn't seem like much of a departure from the existing building. It doesn't seem like a good choice, considering how dead that space feels right now.
