TD Centre Christmas Tree

I love the Christmas Tree standing in the TD Centre plaza facing Wellington Street. Goes to show that Mies' quote 'Less is More' applies to Christmas trees as well as buildings.

Across Bay Street... Commerce Court West has a similar tree in its lobby...

Yes, my family still did that up until 1980. I bought new supplies 2 years ago, and will do it again one of these years. The candle holder is a metal clip and the candles that go with it are specially made for this purpose. Mine are white and about 15 cm high.

We only light the tree when we enter the room and always blow all the candles out when we leave the room. My mother, who's from Finland, introduced this tradition to our family. The pagan ritual of lighting the tree has been around for a long time, but they obviously didn't have electricity back then so they used candles.

Wow, i never thought such simple decorations could look so good. I recall Scotia Plaza having cool Christmas trees, they were also mostly blue-white.
