Cathedral Neighbourhood
Regina, Saskatchewan
___________________________
This beautiful early 20th Century neighbourhood is just west of Downtown Regina. The neighbourhood consists mainly of colourful craftsman homes along quiet streets lined with elm trees. Craftsman homes are simple and functional and aim to complement their natural surroundings, often incorporating local materials. Despite their simplicity, craftsman homes suffer no lack of style and elegance. Regina's formative period coincided with the height of the craftsman style's popularity as the city grew from less than 3,000 in 1900 to over 50,000 by 1930. Along with several variations of the bungalow, craftsman elements can be found on many of Regina's older houses.
Many of these homes have been beautifully restored as the neighbourhood underwent gentrification beginning in the 1970s.
