TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 2, 2007) - This holiday Monday, Simcoe Day, the TTC will bring back a little bit of its past.

A PCC streetcar, common on the streets of Toronto from 1938 to 1995, will operate on the 509 Harbourfront route.

The TTC has retained two PCC's, built in 1951, for special events and tours. The PCC will run on the Harbourfront route on holiday Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The 509 Harbourfront route operates from Union Station to Exhibition Place, and serves the Harbourfront area.

I believe it will actually be assigned a run number, and will be in revenue service.

unfortuently i couldn't make it downtown to catch a ride on one of the PCC's today, so i'm hoping for some pics and videos. hope they do this again sometime soon.

it's good that the ttc is making stuff like this more accessible to their patrons and fans including the doors open this year at lower bay and harvey shops.

View out the front of the streetcar from Exhibition to Union in 4 parts (unfortunately I could only post the first 3 parts on Youtube... the file for the last part to Union Station is too big to upload to Youtube)

I made a small comment on Spacing Wire (I'm living proof there's more to it than downtown hipsters).

I liked how you noticed so many heads turn when the old PCCs were running by. I also love the wide-open windows where it's so easy to rest one's elbow slightly outside.

Here's my few pics anyway.

I love the interior paint scheme.

i was curious about the 521 signage on one of the cars and found that it was the old King-Exhibition route. there's more info at Transit Toronto for anyone else who's interested.

Good ol ttc. Did some dumbass use Comic Sans for those signs on the exterior? Maybe they'll use it for all the new station signage while they're at it.

^ I saw that and winced. Gruesomely tacky. But I don't think it's Comic Sans, I think it's another one of the nasty default fonts. Man. Why go to all the effort of restoring a streetcar to such a beautiful state - and they really were beautiful machines - if you're going to botch its looks with signage so ugly?

What a wonderful idea. I wish they could do this every weekend. I've heard they have some pretty serious mechanical issues, though, so would it be possible?
