Ont Gov't building at 880 Bay, at Grosvenor St (ORC, 44s?, WZMH)

175 metres thats almost as tall as RBC. Not too shabby, although the design seems different from previous renderings? More single square box now, not the building blocks style seen previously.

From the pdf:

The proposed government office development will consist of a 39-storey building (plus a one-storey 12-metre mechanical penthouse) with a non-residential gross floor area (NRGFA) of approximately 80,662 square metre (867,808 square feet). The proposed height is 175 metres to the top of the mechanical penthouse.

So should this count as 39 storeys or 40 storeys?

175m equals 574 feet -- not too shabby. This would put this building second by height in the emerging "mid-town" cluster:

edit -- new height 192m 44 storeys

1 : Aura -- 827 feet 252m 75 storeys (might go to 1007 feet 307m 90 storeys)
2 : 880 Bay -- 630 feet 192m 44 storeys
3 : Burano -- 535 feet 163m 48 storeys
4 : RoCP North -- 507 feet 155m 51 storeys
5 : Murano South -- 462 feet 141m 45 storeys
6 : RoCP South -- 458 feet 140m 46 storeys
7 : The Met -- 415 feet 126m 43 storeys
8 : Maclean-Hunter Building -- 397 feet 121m 30 storeys
9 : Lumiere -- 366 feet 111m 32 storeys
10 : Murano North -- 364 feet 111m 35 storeys
11 : Mowat Block -- 348 feet 106m 24 storeys

Plus maybe another half dozen towers of at least 100m in height that could be included, depending upon where the boundaries of the cluster are drawn (1001 Bay, etc.) but none as tall as the proposed 880 Bay.

Good that they had the sense to pull the building out to Bay St. I much prefer this version just for that fact

^ I would have to think that this would be fully occupied by the govt., possibly with the exception of some commercial space at street level.

867,000 square feet! This will be a large building. It's larger than the Telus building (780,000 sq. ft.), and not really that far behind Bay Adelaide (1.15 million sq. ft.).

How many times does the approved design differ from the preliminary renderings? Almost every time. This is probably just to emphasize massing and placement.

Inspired by Bay Adelaide Centre no doubt. Very boring, much like the current McSquinty regime.

I'll take boring McGuinty over controversial Harper any day.

And I'll take the box as well. I'm sure it'll look better than it does in that planning document.
