Yeah, not only do you have to be a naive 15-year-old to offer coolcanadian's schtick, you have to be a really naive 15-year-old to think that you can get away with posting the same schtick under a different username once you've been banned.
But anyway, with coolcanadian officially in the UT toilet, it sort of renders all the Marina Sands-scale-attraction talk redundant, right? Even Paul Godfrey, I suspect, wouldn't go that far.
Besides, I see this as more of a constructive means of integrating Ontario Place etc into the city. Casino or no casino. (And given that this is Toronto, it probably *would*, in some weird way, manage to integrate a casino into the urban fabric, much as Skydome-with-an-assist-from-Cityplace has proven much less insular and more integral to the city than many such big-sports-dome attractions have tended to be.)
And as for Thanos Godwining me: put it this way, Thanos--considering that I've been long of the opinion that this is the most important aesthetic event of our lives

Las Vegas casino Caesar’s eyeing Toronto location
Another high-profile Las Vegas casino is considering setting up shop in Toronto.
Representatives from Caesars Entertainment Corp. will be visiting the city next week. The company already has a casino in Windsor.
According to published reports, Caesars is interested in building a casino at Exhibition Place or on the waterfront, and has already registered four lobbyists at city hall.
Caesars executive vice-president Jan Jones told the Toronto Sun the company is prepared to invest about $1 billion in Toronto.
MGM, owner of the famed Bellagio in Las Vegas and other luxury casino resorts around the world, is also eyeing a move to Toronto.
MGM confirmed they would not build a resort at Ontario Place, but would consider a casino at the Exhibition Place or the Port Lands. Such a casino resort would require a $3-$5 billion investment from the company.

Why would an MGM resort require 3-5 times what Caesars is willing to invest? I'm wondering where these figures are coming from, or what the scope of Caesars project would be.

Caesar's is only offering a paltry 1 billion investment? What do they think we are, Detroit or something!
The Caesar's Casino in Windsor is terrible and literally destroys the whole area surrounding it. It's the deadest part in all of Windsor and that alone, is saying something.

I long for the days when there were posters who could post pictures of the splendor we could expect for $1bil. Now I am in the awkward position of knowing what we can get for $6billion but have no point of reference for this smaller investment

I dont know, and doubt that a billion bucks now-a-days will get you much of an entertainment mega centre

Toronto Casino sounds like a no brainer.. a world class casino for a world class city!! Not just gambling, but shows, entertainment, shops, night life, drinking.. its a place to party a few times a year. Heck maybe brand Toronto as the destination wedding capital!! The only people that should hate the idea are the people in Niagara falls who depend on tourism from Toronto residents. Seeing as how Niagara falls tourism put out adds slamming Toronto a few summers ago.. i won't feel bad cutting down my journey!
As for the location.. the ex is a good and HUGE spot that could use some revitalization, same thing with the portlands... since the city has no money, why not use the casino to do exactly that! Obviously a subway extension would have to be negotiated into the deal.. another bonus for Toronto residents! As for the woodbine location... well it sucks. Its located in the middle of nowhere and hardly qualifies as Toronto.. the only way they could draw major crowds that way is to extend the crosstown LRT to the location. A location not really mentioned too much is downsview! That boring part of the city might actually start to have a bit of night life!! The best part is the university subway line is already there (also being extended northbound) and maybe just maybe Ford could negotiate that coveted Sheppard SUBWAY (not LRT) into the deal... thats what i call pure genius... lol
Tourists aren't going to come to Toronto just because it has a casino. But if they are visiting the city, its one more reason they'll stay here longer as opposed to taking a trip to Niagara falls. And lets face it, international tourists will go to Niagara falls regardless because tourists want to see the actual waterfall LOL. Tourists don't usually drive. A lot of Toronto residents don't drive. Streets are already constantly clogged with traffic.. thats why people prefer subways (also why properties around subways skyrocket). So I definitely think Toronto has to be smart and negotiate a viable subway extension deal out of any casino development, any location!! it only makes sense... who's going to jump in a cab and fight 401 traffic on a Friday to go gambling at woodbine? lol

I was thinking SkyDome. The other was never realized -- the NFL stadium. He wasn't really the guy in charge of the Olympic Games groups, that was more Bitove/Peterson, right?
I'm really, really skeptical of any project that figures into the multi-billions and yet somehow needs lobbyists to make it work. All the city should have to do is decide whether to issue a building permit. Everything before that smells to me like people are trying to get grants or at least gov't guaranteed financing or other sweeteners, and Godfrey is that kind of a player (for good or bad.)
