A long time ago (probably 1983 or 84) the gas meters at Cedarbrae Mall were scattered throughout the mall, some inside stores, some outside. I was a meter reader for Consumers Gas (now Enbridge) and was tasked one mid March day to read them. There were 4 meters on the roof...two at one end, 2 at the other. I had left them to the very last 4 calls of my route. After the on-site maintenance person let me into a small room at the east end of the mall, I scampered up a metal ladder, opened a trap door and climbed onto the roof. To my dismay, there was about 2 inches of water on the roof...a mini lake, filled up by melted snow and a heavy rainfall earlier in the day (and probably from most of the winter). Walking thru the water to get to the first two meters, I felt the dampness on my feet, as my boots (Kodiaks, at the end of their life), and by the time I reached the other end of the mall, my feet were soaking wet. My work socks were absolutely saturated by the time I read the west end two meters and walked back to the trap door on the top of the roof. Thankfully, I used to keep dry socks and a pair of running shoes in my car....LOL.

It's nice to see that Enbridge moved the meters onto the ground and piped them all to one spot....after I retired!
