150 Main St West (Hamilton, Vrancor, 12 + 25s, Lintack Architects)

The same developer has broken ground on a new 12-storey rental block at Cannon & Wellington, and I'm nervous his resources will be redirected there before these two towers are actually complete.

No doubt, Vrancor is a questionable developer in some of the things they do but nevertheless Hamilton needs project like this. This project looks a lot better then many of the buildings that have been going up in Toronto right now.

This project had so much promise but yet it turns out to be an unmitigated disaster. Nevertheless, Hamilton sorely needs these kinds of developments to prop up its downtown core.

This development took forever to get to completion.

Agreed, it looks just as bad in person.

The only *somewhat* redeeming part is the restoration of the building on the west side. The rest of the structure is too cold and top-heavy. The street level and main entrance on the western tower is insulting. The two stone 'columns' by the main doors seem like a last-minute grasp for respectability.

Unfortunately, many of the recent Hamilton condo developments have been uninspiring. There are a few smaller sites, like the Templar Lofts, that show some progress.

It looks fine from this angle.
