More Lost Toronto in colour

Some more colour images from same era:

Torn down to make room for New City Hall and surrounding

Toronto Dominion Bank. Southwest corner of King and Bay

South side of King looking east towards Bay. Torn down for white marble monstrosity

Queen looking west at Bay

Southeast corner of Bay and Queen

Corner of Bay and Bloor

Bay and Wellington

most of this is still here. the entire block was used as an ancillary to St. Lawrence market from the looks of it.

Further west. some grand Victorians still standing...

But some were torn down for the St. Lawrence Centre

Still there--stripped of grimy mien

Still there. actually looks better now!

Thank god this is still standing. Saphire Tavern (sic) looks like it would have been a cool place...

Mies Rising!

i can't place the location of most of these. some are very familiar looking but i don't know exactly where they were (are)....

I think this might be King St...

Richmond at Victoria?

Barclay Hotel. No idea where this was.

Adelaide at George? that old post office building...

somewhere around King and University?

No idea

??...looks like King Edward in background?

East of Yonge looked desperately slummy back then. What probably saved a lot of our heritage buildings was that its neighbourhoods had fallen so far that developers of the era ignored that side of town.

Toronto had this really cool no-nonsense blue collar look to it back then, perhaps even more so than other American cities I've seen from the time. It looks like they'd throw you out of the bar for being a pansy if you would order anything above Stock Ale.

It was...the end of the produce era for the Market environs came not long after the Ontario Food Terminal opened.

Old theatres and cinemas are like cathedrals to me, I find them magical. When I travel, I check out the theatres first, and then the rest of the city.

Sorry to always point them out and rant on about them but I get so excited when I see old photos of them that I haven't seen before.

I'm loving these threads!
