So strange. i was walking past this building 2 days ago and thinking that building looked ripe for replacement.
 
U of T Residence (at Spadina & Sussex, 22s, Daniels)

I haven't heard anything about this, but info is buried in this article about the Silver Dollar private student residence.

"The community is now dealing with another proposal for a highrise residence at the corner of Spadina Ave. and Sussex St., just west of U of T’s campus.
The university wants to partner with Daniels Corp., which owns an adjacent parcel of land, and build a 22-storey U of T residence that will have 600 to 650 beds, a number the university says will make the project financially viable."

This was interesting, and relevant for a new thread: "According to Mabury, the plan for the second project is still in the preliminary stages. The university hopes to build on Harbord between Spadina and Huron. The residence would be east of the Grad House and west of the Wolfond Center. The building would be serviced by the Grad Center, and U of T hopes to have a retail section on the first floor. The tentative plans are for the building to be eight floors, and act as an expansion to the Graduate House for an additional 200 graduate students."

I looked through agendas and minutes for the Business Board and the Planning & Budget Committee Mtgs for Governing Council for 2014, but did not find anything on either of these projects though.
 
Just read the new story written on this. Surely there must be some way the building can be shifted to save the historic structures. They're real survivors on that stretch of Spadina, it would be unfortunate to see them go now.

There was adoption for assessment of the buildings for heritage status at TEYCC...then nothing. Interestingly enough 666 Spadina just south of here is a listed heritage property (2004).
 
Grand, a collection of all the tired, 2000s architectural cliches in one building. And why the hell does the brick stop arbitrarily halfway up the podium?
