Toronto, raccoon capital of the world

They keep knocking over my green bin. I'm too lazy to find a solution, but cleaning it up off the driveway every couple of days is slowly motivating me to do so... Does anyone know if those wildlife repellent sprays work? I figure I could just put some on and around the bin, but knowing raccoons...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

I may not appreciate streetcars or all of you crazy cyclists, but I can't get behind someone who's considering cuts to things like public parks and emergency services, along with being unable to represent us at events like pride. Live and learn... my vote will be different in the future.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

I hate to say this, but I will. I voted for Ford and regret it. Sorry guys. Removing the existing bike lane does very little to save money. In fact, it's spending money. He also made a campaign promise not to cut services (that he has just going to find more efficient ways of doing it), but it...

How Can Toronto improve? How can Toronto become a better city overall?

I agree. The people living in downtown Toronto seem to have very different views on how the city should be run than the people in former areas like Etobicoke, North York, etc...

How would you fix traffic in Toronto?

MetroMan, my list had several other reasons why I believe that gridlock occurs. If you want to talk about Eglinton, we can discuss the reasons why gridlock occurs there (things such as the Allen, HOV lane, or lack of advance lights), but this is about the entire city. Your post even points...

How would you fix traffic in Toronto?

Does anyone know the statistics for bus vs streetcar seating capacity?

    Rob Ford's Toronto

This is faulty logic. The colourblind gene is passed along through people who aren't colourblind sometimes. Sometimes children are born with traits that haven't been evident in the family for a couple of generations. Also, gay marriage is here to stay. Society is the same as it was before. Get...

How would you fix traffic in Toronto?

As I mentioned above, the law suggests slower moving traffic should move to the shoulder if it is safely possible to do so. Driving behind a slow cyclist can create it's own safety issues. An any-time issue really, since people don't seem to pay attention to the no stopping times on street...

How would you fix traffic in Toronto?

I have to take Dundas west a lot, and from my experience it becomes impossible to pass a streetcar because of the combination of parked cars and the large number of stops and traffic lights. I find it much easier to pass buses and they seem to reach traffic speed quicker. Riding side by side...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

I think over the course of a week I've gone through this entire thread. Amazing to see how things change... Another great place to check out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/torontohistory/

    Best Burger

Haven't seen it mentioned, but i'm a big fan of Big Bite's bacon cheeseburger. The curly fries are great too... 994 Eglinton W (west of Bathurst).

    Toronto's Ugliest Building

Surprisingly, the ROM's crystal addition was the first thing to come to my mind. When it was first launched, I wasn't a big fan and thought that it might grow on me but it hasn't at all. It's just a sharp blob that ice likes to fall from in the winter.

How would you fix traffic in Toronto?

nfitz, my statement about the size of the vehicles may have been off, but my point was that the two different forms of transportation vary greatly in the amount of gridlock they create. When you see a streetcar, chances are the road ahead is clear (unless there's another streetcar ahead of it)...

How would you fix traffic in Toronto?

I drive around Toronto (downtown core and west end) and the biggest problems causing gridlock I've noticed are: 1. Streetcars. I don't see how some of you think buses are the same. Yes, they have to stop and are just as big. But they don't stop both lanes of traffic to do so and when people...
