    25 Mabelle Avenue Balcony Renovations?

Heh, I'm looking out my window and seeing them working on it now--didn't know what they were doing before. I wish 25 Mabelle didn't partly block my view of the downtown skyline, but it something of an improvement for the neighbourhood.

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

Yes and no. I used to fly to Asia a lot and paid around $1100-1300 return to Seoul with a one year or open ticket in the 90s. Compare that with specific fares to Seoul now which are generally far higher and most of the amenities are gone. Depends on the location and frequency I suppose. And...

    Winnipeg gets NHL team!!!

Anything that pisses Bettman off makes me happy, and moving the Thrashers out of the Sun Belt must really get his goat. The fact that a New York lawyer who has no background or stake in the game runs the sport is an insult to hockey fans, and his attempts to push markets where the snow never...

Canada Post strike - would you care?

No, I only check the mailbox when my wife reminds me and its rarely important. Bad time for the posties to let people know how important they are, though I will admit they seem less militant than they were in the 80s.

Good for Porter. They have an old-school way of dealing with public unlike that mess that is Air Canada and if you time things right and book well in advance you can get competitive fares. I'll be happy if they expand and continue to thrive. Air travel in general sucks compared with the 80s and 90s.

What's your favourite policy/program of the Miller gov't?

    The waterfront. That's about it.

Islington Village / Six Points (Etobicoke)

Bleah Being a resident in the Islington Village area for a few years now I'll believe the improvements when I see it. Public housing goes on as ever before and eyesores (and earsores) abound. The courthouse and the changes to Islington Station seem dead (SC Lavalin pulled out suddenly--no big...

    Mississauga City Centre (Downtown)

It would have been nice as green space (MCC needs it) but at least it'll get more pedestrian traffic going and might encourage more ground level retail to develop. Perhaps the few others chunks of land left over might not all turn up under concrete but I'm not holding my breath. MCC does have a...

    Toronto Gaylection 2010

Yep, I don't see a significant connection between the issues and the person's orientation unless it's driving their policy. Might as well take most other candidates and say Straightlection 2009 (and so on).

    Sarah Palin Quits Alaska Governorship

For all his other faults Levi Johnson was smart not to marry into the money and become the whipping boy for the Palin family. But yes, he's definitely out of his league speaking out the way he is and inciting the wrath of Palin. He's going to have even more of a hard time now.

    City Workers Strike 2009

Perhaps I missed it in the thread, but I still don't see how the union can enforce (and police can allow) those 15 minute wait times if the city insists the public cannot be prevented from dropping off their garbage at official sites.

    City Workers Strike 2009

The union berates a reasonable offer and attacks the city for telling the public how generous it was. Bloody cheeky of them and now a counter offer is in the works. Pathetic. Union to make counter-offer

    Blue Jays

Between the recent play of late, releasing Ryan (with Downs just coming back) and entertaining offers for Halliday I'd say the season is on life support.

    Blue Jays

The Jays are now where I (and I'm sure many others) expected them to be. A lot of us were disappointed with Riccardi's cautious off-season and didn't expect too much. The early play was a nice anomaly but an anomaly all the same, and they still can't beat the big boys when they need to. I...

    Blue Jays

    1. Any way you want 2. For guys they'll do. You'll might get lineups between innings. For ladies I don't know. 3. Oh yes. Rip-offs abound. Don't even mention the beer. It's relaxed atmosphere and people come and go more often than at more intense hockey or football games.

    City Workers Strike 2009

I teach a lot of York students through a part time course and it's interesting to hear the comments about the way the union handled the strike. Even in that hotbed of ideology they can see the disconnect between ideals and actions. I'm no fan of unrestrained big business but two wrongs don't...

    City Workers Strike 2009

Yep, one big not so happy family, eh?

    City Workers Strike 2009

The NDP and the more powerful unions (auto workers, public sector) might see eye to eye on social issues but seem to have drifted apart a bit as the unions have moved economically out of their working class roots. As the wave of boomers gained experience they enjoyed higher pay and benefits...

    Sarah Palin Quits Alaska Governorship

The Republican Party would have to be hard up for candidates to go to her for a future nomination, though a capable vice-residential candidate might help her. I wonder if she can keep herself consistently in the public eye from now until then or just fades away.

    City Workers Strike 2009

With bankable sick days and good wages CUPE is hardly a good representative of the oppressed here. The article itself is histrionic and reads like an opinion piece.
