Construction at 155 Elm Ridge has now topped off, with the tower crane dismantled as the 19-storey rental building by Richmond Architects for Reena advances toward completion in Toronto’s Briar Hill neighbourhood. Rising near Allen Road and Eglinton Avenue West, the project sits within a 10-minute walk of Cedarvale Station on Line 1. The building is being delivered through the City of Toronto’s Open Door program, providing affordable rental housing with 24/7 on-site supervision for young adults with developmental disabilities. The project has progressed steadily since construction began in September, 2023.

Looking southeast in May, 2024, the recently erected tower crane is positioned at the west end of the site. Perimeter shoring walls define the three-level below-grade excavation, their exposed concrete faces punctuated by tieback anchor points, while a white weatherproof tarp lines the south elevation. A blue articulated boom lift is stationed near the southeast corner at the base of the excavation.

One year later, the structure has risen to 10 storeys above grade, with slab formwork and decking in place for the 11th-floor pour. Three storeys along the west elevation present a largely blank concrete facade, while red perimeter safety rails trace each floor plate. A step-back is visible at the fifth floor, transitioning to the slimmer tower floorplate above, with an additional indentation at the northwest corner. Formwork panels are staged atop the podium roof.

By September, the tower stands at 19 storeys, with the residential floors now formed. A construction hoist climbs the north elevation, as white precast panel cladding is installed in sections along the east facade, now rising to roughly the 15th floor. Below, vision glazing and spandrel panels have been fitted up to about the seventh storey. At grade, stone veneer is being applied across the ground floor, while areas of exposed blue weatherproofing indicate portions of the facade still awaiting final cladding.

As seen below, the 19-storey structure is topped off by November, 2025, with the mechanical penthouse formed. The north-projecting volume is largely enclosed, clad in dark vision glazing and spandrel panels with louvres rising to approximately the 14th floor, while white precast panels advance up the west elevation to around the 17th storey. At grade, glazing systems are now installed alongside the stone veneer base.

Viewed from a distance in December, 2025, the tower rises between neighbouring mid-rise buildings, with the mechanical penthouse clearly articulated at the crown and the crane dismantled. Red perimeter safety rails line the uppermost slabs. Portions of the mechanical penthouse and 19th floor remain open where glazing has not yet been installed on both the north-projecting volume and the main tower facade.

From a Line 1 train this month, the rental tower appears largely enclosed, with glazing now substantially installed across the east elevation and the mechanical penthouse. Dark vision glass and spandrel panels wrap the projecting north and south volumes, framing the central white precast-clad section, which rises to full height. At the roof, building maintenance units are visible atop the white middle volume. The fenestration pattern within the white panel field reads as a series of varied rectangular openings.

155 Elm Ridge stands 71.6m and will house 111 rental units.
