Forma’s east tower continues to rise at King and Duncan in Downtown Toronto; we last reported on the Frank Gehry-designed building in August when the tower was approaching grade. With Adamson Associates as Architect of Record and the development team of Great Gulf, Dream Unlimited, and Westdale Properties, two months later, the structure is above grade in Toronto’s Entertainment District

It's the shorter, 73-storey east tower, that's currently under construction. The 84-storey west tower, a "supertall," will complete the project following an eventual sales campaign, and will rise on the west side of Duncan Street opposite the first phase.

Int he image below from earlier this month, we look northwest across David Pecaut Square to the Forma construction site, now above grade with formwork for columns and shear walls work rising over the hoarding. A red concrete pump arm stretches from Duncan Street past the tower crane, pumping concrete to the east end of the site adjacent to the Royal Alexandra Theatre.

A close-up view of Forma’s construction highlights construction crews in orange vests maneouvering around the rebar and formwork. Around the tower crane base, formwork for walls and columns is seen as crews prepare for upcoming pours. On the right, a worker on a scissor lift guides a concrete bucket suspended by the crane to ensure precise placement of the concrete.

With the amount of rebar being used and the given spatial constraints, construction crews are utilizing an off-site area along Pearl Street to assemble rebar cages northeast of Forma and south of the recently completed Toronto House. As seen below, a flatbed truck then delivers the rebar cages to the construction site.

Most recently, the second floor's formed concrete walls can now be seen from King Street West, with some wooden formwork still in place adjacent to the crane. On the left, a thick forest of rebar is visible where formwork will soon be affixed, and additional pours will come for the north end of the floor. Above the second floor walls, rebar also extends upwards, to be attached into rebar for the coming third floor walls.

Once complete, Forma's east tower, reaching 262.8m, will introduce 864 residential suites. The west tower will rise to 308m, making it Gehry’s tallest building ever, set to include 1,170 residential units plus a hotel and retail in its podium.

UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below. If you'd like, you can join in on the conversation in the associated Project Forum thread or leave a comment in the space provided on this page.
