Nestled along the waterfront among the other towers of Etobicoke's Humber Bay Shores neighbourhood, Water's Edge at the Cove is about to top off. With its prolonged construction saga going back a decade, the project is finally peaking on this waterfront skyline on the west side of Toronto, with work now progressing on the mechanical penthouse atop the 56-storey tower. Designed by Richmond Architects for the Conservatory Group, the project weathered slow initial sales and redirections, with the developer temporarily shifting focus to sales for the adjacent 16-storey The Cove at Waterways.

In the foreground of the September, 2015 image below, with blue tarp covering the pit walls, and neighbouring construction projects as the backdrop, Water's Edge was caught at the excavation phase. Earthmoving equipment had previously cleared the area, with the soil and bedrock being prepared for the laying of the foundation. We see a white tower crane to the left where the 16-storey The Cove was being built. Behind to the left was the completed Ocean Club, while other ongoing projects at the time were Jade Waterfront, in the middle of the image, Lago at the Waterfront close-up on the right, and Key West to the far right in the distance, all signalling a significant transformation of the area.

Jumping six-and-a-half years, by March, 2022, we see considerable progress after The Cove was finished and work on Water's Edge and its ancillary commercial building had restarted, with the first two storeys of the commercial building rising beside Lake Shore Boulevard West. Behind the commercial building, we can see concrete columns for the ground floor of Water's Edge. To the right, the completed black-and-white Lago tower takes centre-stage immediately behind, while several other towers mark the area's skyline.

By July, 2023, the commercial building was topped off, clad, and awaiting mullion caps, while the residential tower was about halfway up behind it. We can make out the installation of the facade system on lower floors, while the construction hoist climbs to within a few floors of the current top floor, being raised every few weeks to catch up with the latest fully cured floors.

By October, 2023, the tower's construction had reached the 48th floor. We can make out the glazing application on the lower storeys, with the upper 16 storeys still in the bare concrete stage.

Captured in February of this year, we get a close-up of the podium, with cladding applied other than around the lobby area where special materials are still to come. The building’s angular design is accentuated by the reflective glass of the balcony guards which create a dynamic visual rhythm.

The look skyward from two days ago, below, showcases the tower’s soaring verticality. as its mechanical penthouse is being formed, soon to top out at a height of 182.26m. The structure’s glazing is in clear view, with six storeys at the top remaining bare, while shoring posts remain in use on the four uppermost residential floors as those concrete slabs complete their curing phase.

As the project enters the final stages of construction, work is already underway inside to finish the units. Water's Edge at the Cove is set to house 606 residential units.
