Steady progress continues on Edenshaw Developments's Alba, a 32-storey condo located southeast of Hurontario Street and Central Parkway East in the heart of Mississauga. The site is 650m north of Cooksville GO station, soon to also serve as an interchange point with the Hurontario LRT, currently under construction and to open with Fairview stop near Alba, before Alba is complete.

The condo building will actually be mixed-use, boasting some retail space at ground level. UrbanToronto last checked in on the project in November of last year, where we saw the ongoing shoring and excavation after construction started that summer. Excavation has since continued on the site at 1 Fairview Road East, while construction continues for the LRT nearby as it works towards its late-2024 target completion date.

An image captured in late April, 2023 illustrates the evolving landscape of the site. The excavation area is being methodically dug out to accommodate eight levels of underground parking plus wells for a geothermal cooling and heating system. With the depth of this excavation and the amount of underground work to bring the project back up to grade level, it will be 2024 before we see the first floor forms peeking over the fence around the site.

In an overhead drone shot, the terraced layers of bedrock are clearly visible as excavators work on clearing the whole underground area. This bird's eye view also features a mirror-like puddle in the southwest corner, reflecting a piece of the the sky back up to us.

Looking at the site one month later in May reveals that around two-thirds of the hole were still to be excavated. A towering 18 feet block of bedrock stands tall in the pit — a silent testament to the arduous work that lies ahead.

By the end of June (and then mid-July for the second and third images below), the pace of work has accelerated, with a crane now in place, while excavators and cherry picker continue the work in this particularly deep pit.

Once Alba is complete, its design by Core Architects will be coupled with interior designs by Cecconi Simone, which will feature a curated amenity program of over 1,850m² in area, in addition to the building's 418 residential suites.

UrbanToronto will continue to follow progress on this development, but in the meantime, you can learn more about it from our Database file, linked below. If you'd like, you can join in on the conversation in the associated Project Forum thread or leave a comment in the space provided on this page.
