Minto Communities GTA took a big step towards the realization of their highly-awarded The Heights of Harmony development this week, hosting a ground breaking ceremony on the Oshawa site to mark the official start of the project’s construction process. Designed by RN Design, the master-planned community will eventually be populated with 800 family-oriented residences coming in a variety of customizable townhouse options. After earning BILD’s Low-Rise Project of the Year award last month, the start of construction is just the latest milestone in an already strong year for the Minto project.

“Today, we realize our vision of bringing more housing options and supply for families, young couples, and first-time homebuyers to Oshawa and the Durham region,” said Vince Santino, Vice-President of Development, Minto Communities GTA “We are invested, and that’s because we believe in this community. We’re thrilled with the reception of The Heights of Harmony master-planned community to date,” he continued, “and we’re looking forward to launching future phases in this idyllic location”.

Located in the pastoral Kedron neighbourhood of northern Oshawa, the nearly 100-acre site offers the freedom of open space outside of the city while close proximity to the major highways and GO Transit enables seamless connectivity to Downtown. With such a wide area, the site will also be able to accommodate a 28-acre park complete with a network of walking paths and a community pond.

With construction now officially underway, we will begin to see the thoughtful variety of housing options coming together. Offering 20’, 36’, and 43’ designs for purchase, the project promises a highly customizable home layout that can be personalized further with a number of styles to choose from for the finishes. The Modern Farmhouse finish pictured below is just one example, defined by an overall contemporary feel that is accented by more rustic details.

The Heights of Harmony also exemplifies why Minto was recognized as BILD’s 2023 Green Builder of the Year. Every house in the community is designed to be Net-Zero Ready, meaning that a number of internal upgrades can be added on to reduce the building’s operating emissions. The features include high-efficiency windows and insulation to limit heat loss, as well as zoned-HVAC systems that work together to deliver emission reductions of 85%.

With the first phase set to deliver a wide selection of family-friendly housing options starting in the 700’s, the second phase will deliver a new set of homes that are priced to be inclusive for first-time home buyers. To launch in the coming months, the selection will include back-to-back townhouses and laneway homes as well.
