Toronto-based Graywood Developments had a busy late September as they hosted events for the ground breaking of two projects on different sides of the country. In Downtown Toronto, the company was thrilled to celebrate a day marking the start of construction of The Goode Condos, while another celebration just days earlier took place in Calgary, for Graywood's First & Park development.
Located in Toronto's historic Distillery District on the edge of the Downtown core, The Goode Condos is now officially on its way to becoming the 32-storey residential tower that has been in the planning process since 2017. While the final plan will deliver 540 new dwelling units, the design by architects—Alliance went through many revisions, and responds to the requests of the City, with a strong focus on elevating the public realm around the prominent site.
“When it comes to real estate and development, you can’t beat location, you can’t replace experience, and you can’t cut corners,” said Stephen Price, President and CEO of Graywood Developments. “We are excited to be adding on to the undeniable success achieved by the Distillery District and contributing to the rapid transformation taking place in the Downtown East.”
The transformation of the area that Price refers to includes, along with the perpetual residential and commercial development, several large-scale infrastructure projects that are taking place that will guide the exciting area into the future. In the transit sector, the Ontario Line will introduce a new higher order transit hub at Corktown Station, while the redevelopment of the Port Lands to the south will deliver a 25 acre public park, transforming the industrial site into a community defining space. The Goode Condos will be witness to these changes, while having impacts of its own as well.
Looking at what has been happening on site, an image captured on September 30th (below) by UrbanToronto Forum contributor jsmith77 shows the progress that construction has made thus far; a shoring rig has begun drilling in the northeast corner of the site while aggregate is on hand for a shovel to level the ground wherever the massive piece of equipment will need it. With occupancy targeted for 2025, the construction of the Goode Condos will be a story to follow.
