Capital Developments and Reserve Properties have assembled a uniquely super-powered team to deliver a 69-storey mixed-use residential development at 8 Elm Street, steps from Yonge Dundas Square. Marvel star and Hollywood sweetheart Simu Liu, acting as a collaborator on the design, brings his personal Toronto perspective to the design team featuring architects IBI Group and award winning interior design firm Cecconi Simone. Together, the team has put forward an eye-catching proposal for the 218m tower that will bring 819 new homes and a plethora of amenity spaces to the lively downtown hub.

Discussing his involvement in the project in a Tuesday press release, Liu explained that, “having lived in the same Bay Street apartment for eight years, I know the importance of designing and optimizing every square foot of living space so residents can feel happy and relaxed in their homes.” 

The actor also shared that the project will invest in the elevation of community experience in Toronto beyond the development itself. “I have always believed that real estate developers have a responsibility to give back to the cities they build in.” Per Liu’s request, community benefit funding will be directed to affordable housing and community development initiatives, and the team will soon be announcing several charitable initiatives that will be worked into the 8 Elm project. 

As for the design, the published materials direct attention to the project’s amenity program, made possible by the 26,000 ft² of indoor and outdoor amenity space stacked throughout the tower.

The press release highlights that the development has reserved 5,000 ft² within the podium to be programmed by the City, while wrap-around terraces, work spaces, and recreational amenities at different levels contribute to the “live in a hotel” atmosphere the project hopes to foster.

A fitness centre and social club further contribute to this hotel experience, but the crowning element is the proposed Sky Club, a 2-storey bar occupying parts of the 5th and 6th floors with a private terrace. Dark fabric walls and upholstered furniture aim to create an opulent and exclusive feeling that will satisfy residents.
