Construction is coming along at Avia Condos at Parkside Village, located just west of Square One shopping centre in Mississauga. Developed by Amacon and designed by Turner Fleishcer Architects, the complex now stands well above grade, with three cranes at work on the site.
Our last update on the project back in September noted that the underground garage had been completed, and that the building had just reached grade, while the west end of the site had reached the first level of the five-storey podium.
As of recent on the site, construction on the majority of the podium levels has reached a height of two levels, while at the northwest corner, crews are working on the fourth level. Two residential towers will rise to 38 and 50 storeys from the top of the fifth podium level, in the northwest and southeast corners. The podium will eventually be clad in red brick, and will feature retail at ground level.
Taking a look west across Confederation Parkway, we can see that fly forms are in place around the perimeter of the uppermost level of the building's structure. With rebar and conduits put in place after the forms are positioned, concrete is then poured over the forms. Once the concrete has cured, the forms are removed and hoisted up level to be used to on the next floor.
In the image below, we can see that the northwest corner of the development, at the far right, is further along than the rest. We can see that columns are being formed for the fourth level, currently with rebar sticking out of their tops, ready to be tied into the next level of column above soon enough. Once the fifth level slab is poured in this corner, crews will be able to begin work on the tower levels.
Upon completion, Avia at Parkside Village will house a total of 1,056 residential units, and be within walking distance to many local amenities including Square One Shopping Centre, Mississauga Celebration Square and City Hall, and have close access to local MiWay and regional GO Transit buses, and Highway 403.
More information on the development will come soon, but in the meantime, you can learn more from our Database file for the project, linked below. If you'd like, you can join in on the conversation in the associated Project Forum thread, or leave a comment in the space provided on this page.
