It's winter, and the City is ready for it; in Toronto's Port Lands, massive berms of salt line the south side of the Shipping Channel is this photo by UrbanToronto Forum contributor Nwalsh. The salt is delivered by lake freighter from the world's largest underground salt mine at Goderich, Ontario, about as deep under Lake Huron as the CN Tower is high. The salt is waiting under wraps for trucks to spread it on roads whenever storms threaten.
