Construction is moving along at the site of Minto Communities GTA's latest contribution to Toronto's Fashion District at 123 Portland Street. The 14-storey Sweeny &Co Architects-designed boutique luxury building has been underway at the corner of Portland and Adelaide streets since mid-2020, following the demolition of a former Para Paints shop and three houses that previously occupied the site. Now approaching the one-year mark since shoring work kicked off construction, the project is gearing up for its next important milestone.

Following the early 2020 demolitions, construction began about 11 months ago, and a ceremonial ground breaking was held last August with work already progressing on the site's shoring system. We've been keeping a close eye on construction since, with milestones including the installation of a tower crane in mid-January, and the start of forming for the building's three-level underground garage.

The lowest P3 level is now fully formed, as is the majority of the P2 level above. Most recently, forming has advanced to the P1 level, where walls and columns now sit just shy of grade. In the coming weeks, the first pours will begin shaping out the ground floor, representing the first few metres in the building's climb to an eventual height of just over 49 metres.

The first signs of the coming ground floor are apparent at the east end of the site, where slab forms are in place for the initial ground level pour. These forms surround exposed rebar cages, where the ground floor supporting columns will soon connect.

Upon completion, the project will bring 117 new condominium units to the Fashion District, with residents having access to a wide selection of amenity spaces appointed by interior designers U31.
