The Yonge-Eglinton area in Midtown Toronto is quickly intensifying with the promised opening of the Crosstown LRT next year. Among the wave of projects bringing new homes to the area, Reserve Properties and Westdale Properties are introducing a new cluster of towers to a block of Broadway Avenue between Redpath Avenue and Mount Pleasant Road. The first of these projects, known as Line 5 Condos, is to bring 33 and 36-storey IBI Group-designed towers to the block, with construction having started last October. Now, a second multi-tower development is gearing up for the start of construction, with the recent start of site clearing for the project dubbed Untitled Toronto.
Located directly across the street to the north of the Line 5 site, Untitled's design story is a unique one, featuring a collaboration of Grammy-winning recording artist Pharrell Williams working with both IBI Group and U31 on the building's architecture and interior spaces. Announced in 2019, the project will add a pair of 21 and 33-storey condo towers to the block along with an associated 36-storey rental tower at 100 Broadway.
Recent photos of the development site show that demolition activity has begun on the buildings that occupy the new buildings' footprints. The existing buildings include a range of typologies, with a 10-storey rental tower occupying the northeast corner of Redpath and Broadway, flanked by mid-rise buildings to the east and house-form rentals to the north. While interior demolition has spotted a few months ago, most recently, structural demolition has begun to clear away the first of the buildings slated for removal.
The Untitled and 100 Broadway developments will combine to add over 1,150 condominium and rental units to the site, while over 930 units are under construction at the Line 5 site across the road.
