Toronto's Fashion District is home to the busy construction site of 123 Portland Street, a new condominium development from Minto Communities GTA being built at the corner of Portland and Adelaide streets. The site of the future 14-storey Sweeny &Co Architects-designed boutique luxury building has been in motion for over a year now following the early 2020 start of demolition work of buildings previously on the site. A string of milestones have been reached since, so today we'll take a look at what has been accomplished over the last 13 months.

Among the first important construction milestones was the July 7, 2020 completion of site clearing and the arrival of drilling rigs to begin work on the shoring.

With the site clear, a ceremonial ground breaking was held in August, 2020, officially celebrating the already-active construction project.

Just over two months later, the project crossed another turning point with the October, 2020 completion of shoring, and the start of excavation to create space for a three-level underground garage that will house 49 resident and 8 visitor parking spaces.

Perhaps the biggest point in the project's construction history thus far came about 11 months into the process, with the January 19th installation of a tower crane at the base of the excavated pit. To celebrate this milestone, Minto produced a video documenting the process.

We've since been tracking the site's latest milestones, which include the start of below-grade forming on the lowest level, P3, immediately after the crane installation, and most recently the start of forming for the P2 level above. A final underground level will follow the P2 level currently taking shape before construction surfaces at street level.

Once construction wraps up, the building will introduce 117 new condominium units to the Fashion District, with residents enjoying access to a wide selection of amenity spaces appointed by interior designers U31.
