Construction of Minto Communities GTA's latest addition to Toronto's Fashion District has been under construction at the corner of Portland and Adelaide streets since mid-2020. Now, 123 Portland Street is gearing up for vertical construction as the 14-storey Sweeny &Co Architects-designed boutique luxury building progresses past an early milestone.
Site preparation work began several months prior to the actual construction start, with the demolition in the early months of 2020 of a Para Paints shop and three houses. Shoring then began weeks before a ceremonial ground breaking in August, paving the way for excavation of the building's three-level underground garage. Excavation was close to bottoming out at the time of our last update just over one month ago, and digging has since wrapped up.
With the pit bottomed out, the most recent milestone has been the start of forming. Concrete footings poured at the southwest corner of the site mark where a tower crane is set to rise in the near future. The crane will first facilitate the forming of the underground garage levels, before work moves above grade later this year. From there, the building will rise to just over 49 metres high.
Once construction wraps up, the building will introduce 117 new condominium units to the Fashion District, with residents to have access to a wide selection of amenity spaces appointed by interior designers U31.
