It's been a busy few months of pre-construction prep work at the site of Collecdev's latest addition to a growing hub of residential density just east of Wilson subway station in Toronto, where a line of buildings along the north side of Wilson Avenue have been demolished. In recent weeks, heavy equipment has arrived to begin the first phase of construction of Nordic Condos, a 12-storey building designed by gh3.
We last checked in on the project when demolition work reached the final building on the site. With a conditional partial shoring permit having been issued in mid-December, backfilling of the site to provide a flat surface for drilling rigs to work on has meant the rigs have arrived and allowed the shoring phase to begin. The rigs will drill boreholes around the perimeter of the site into which steel I-beams will be anchored, becoming the supports for below-grade retaining walls that will hold back surrounding soil during excavation.
As shoring advances along the perimeter, a pair of excavators continue to clear demolition debris and other obstacles from the recently torn down buildings in the centre of the site. Once shoring walls are ready, the Nordic site will be excavated to a depth of 9.9 metres to create space for the building's foundations and two-level underground garage.
Nordic is set to rise 12 storeys to a height of just over 41 metres, and house 429 condominium and rental replacement units. Among the features awaiting purchasers and residents are a selection of amenities appointed by interior designers ESQAPE Design.
