In the blocks surrounding Eglinton subway station in Midtown Toronto, streets formerly characterized by 20th-century low- and mid-rise apartment buildings are being redefined by modern point towers. Just north of the Yonge-Eglinton intersection, a stretch of Roehampton Avenue extending several blocks east from Yonge Street has been rapidly built out with such developments over the past several years. One more tower is now rising on this stretch, with the E2 at E Place development being built at 41 Roehampton, just steps east of Yonge.
The 46-storey condominium tower, designed by TACT Architecture for Capital Developments and Metropia has been underway since Fall, 2018 when demolition of a previous condominium building—owners agreed to sell in a rare example of condo-to-condo redevelopment—and an adjacent single-family home began to clear the slate for the new development. Shoring and excavation followed in early 2019, and with the pit bottomed out, a crane was installed late last year.
Work on the below-grade levels wrapped in Spring, 2020 and the ascent above grade has been progressing ever since. In September, forming of the fourth and final podium level was completed, and smaller tower floors are now appearing at a higher rate. Six of these tower floors are now in place, with crews in the process of forming the remaining walls and columns of the 10th floor.
The project will top out at a height of approximately 156 metres next year. Once complete, the building will bring another 617 units to the bustling Yonge-Eglinton neighbourhood.
