This week, Throwback Thursday takes us back over two and a half years, comparing a pair of views of a changing strip of Toronto's Queen Street East. Back in March, 2018, Marlin Spring Developments celebrated the start of construction for their WestBeach Condominiums project with a ceremonial ground breaking at the site, 1630 Queen Street East at Coxwell Avenue. A view facing northwest across Queen Street showed tents in place for the ceremony on the freshly-cleared site, which was formerly home to KFC and the Emerald Bar and Grill.

31 months later, and the six-storey, Graziani + Corazza Architects-designed condominium development is now structurally complete, largely enclosed in cladding, and likely just a few months away from welcoming its first residents. Further west on Queen Street East, and in the background of our October, 2020 view, a new six-storey mass-timber rental building is well under construction at 1602 Queen Street East. The building is now also structurally complete and having exterior finishes applied.

We will return next week with another look at the changing face of Toronto. In the meantime, you can submit your own Throwback Thursday comparisons in our dedicated Forum thread for your chance to be featured in next week's edition.
