In what seems to becoming a monthly tradition just north of Toronto's North York City Centre area, another crane has been raised at the site of Aoyuan International's M2M Condos complex, a mixed-use, multi-tower complex under construction at Yonge and Cummer. The latest crane installation marks another step forward for the first phase of the Wallman Architects-designed community, to rise at the south end of the development site that was previously occupied by Newtonbrook Plaza.
Installed this past weekend, the fourth tower crane follows previous crane installations, evenly spaced almost exactly one month apart at the ends of June, July, August, and now, September. The first two cranes were installed at the south end of the site's 13.3-metre-deep excavated pit, with the third following immediately to the north along the site's east side. The latest crane has been installed just west of the third crane, and northwest of the first crane.
The assembly of the fourth tower crane was captured over the weekend, carried out with the help of a mobile hydraulic crane operating from a closed lane along the site's Yonge Street frontage. Individual crane sections were delivered to the site on flatbed trucks. From there, the sections were fixed with lines to the mobile crane, hoisted into position, and carefully bolted in place.

The four cranes are together assisting in forming the first phase's four underground levels. The garage is furthest along at the southeast corner of the pit, where the initial tower crane was installed months ago. At this section of the site, portions of the P4 and P3 levels have been formed, while slab forms are being laid for the first P2 section above. P2 walls and columns are progressing along the east end of the pit in a narrow strip. To the west, many P4 walls and columns are in place, while initial P4 sections have just begun to appear to the north.
M2M's first phase pair of mixed-use towers will rise 34 and 36 storeys, bringing a combined 810 condominium units to Yonge Street above a podium that contains commercial office and retail space. Three additional buildings will follow north of the first phase, where site preparation activity is setting the stage for construction.
