Part of a wave of mid-rise development currently reshaping a stretch of Toronto's Dupont Street between Spadina and Ossington, construction is moving along at the site of Litho, a mixed-use mid-rise from RioCan REIT and Woodbourne Canada. The nine-storey, Turner Fleischer Architects-designed project at 740 Dupont will bring new rental housing to the area, atop a base housing a new Farm Boy grocery store.

Construction of the purpose-built rental residential building began in early 2018, when demolition took down a former car dealership from the site. Shoring followed, clearing the way for the start of excavation in late Spring, 2018. Excavation had bottomed out and a crane was installed by October, 2018, and forming for the two-level underground garage wrapped up in Spring, 2019. We last checked in this past March, when the structure stood a couple storeys above Dupont.

Seven months of construction since then, the building has surpassed a few milestones including topping out at a height of approximately 37 metres earlier this year, and the start of installation for exterior finishes. Precast concrete in white and dark finishes is now forming a frame around the structure, while residential levels are being enclosed in a window wall system with dark-tinted glazing, charcoal grey spandrel panels, and louvre vents framed in dark aluminum mullions.

Litho, which draws its name from a lithography studio that long operated on part of the building site, will bring 210 purpose-built rental suites to the community, with the site's Dupont frontage to be further animated by the new grocery store.
