Part of a resurgence in rental towers now being built in Midtown Toronto, construction is advancing through its early stages at the site of 71 Redpath Avenue, a 21-storey apartment building from The Benvenuto Group. Under construction on the northeast corner of Redpath and Soudan avenues, just a few blocks southeast of Yonge and Eglinton, the project has been active since the end of 2019, when shoring rigs began drilling on the cleared site. Crews have since formed tandem caisson wall and pile and lagging shoring systems, excavated the site to a depth of four levels, and most recently begun the forming stage for the foundations and garage levels.

We last checked in at the end of July, when the site was abuzz with activity as a foundation was being poured. A thick crane and elevator core base slab was in place by mid-August, requiring an 11-hour concrete pour. Since then, the installation of a tower crane at the centre of the pit in late August marked the latest construction milestone for the project.

With the crane in place and waterproofing completed for the base of the pit, work has since accelerated on forming the lowest level of the four-level underground garage. Views into the excavated pit show that the majority of foundation work is complete, and the first walls and columns of the P4 level have since emerged. At the centre of the site, a large rebar cage marks the lowest extent of the building's elevator core.

Designed by NEUF architect(e)s and CMV Group architects, the project is one of a growing collection of purpose-built rental developments catering to the mid-range and luxury markets. Future residents of the building's 180 suites can expect a selection of condominium-quality amenities with interiors by Patton Design Studio, including a rooftop space with views of the neighbourhood.
