Construction is gathering momentum at Aoyuan International's M2M Condos complex, a new mixed-use community being built just north of Toronto's North York City Centre area. The former Newtonbrook Plaza site at Yonge and Cummer north of Finch subway station has been the site of several construction milestones in just a few short months, with yet another achievement recorded this past week for the first phase of the Wallman Architects-designed community, where the first two of five towers will rise from the south end of the site.
Following the installation of a first crane at the end of June and a second crane at the end of July, the pattern of cranes installed at one-month intervals continued with the raising of a third tower crane to the north, offering some insight into the careful organization and planning that goes into a construction project of this magnitude.
A view into the 13.3-metre-deep pit (above) shows that forming has progressed in an L-shape around the three cranes, with a large section of the foundations and first parking level in place for the four-level underground garage. With a fair bit of the P4 level formed, slab forms are in place for the first section of the P3 level at the site's southeast corner.
Once above grade, the first phase's pair of mixed-use towers will rise 34 and 36 storeys, with a combined 810 condominium units built atop a podium containing commercial office and retail space. Three more buildings will follow to the north, where shoring and excavation activity continue to prime the next phase footprint.
