It's been about four months since we last checked in on construction at 75 on The Esplanade, a new condominium tower from Harhay Developments and Carttera Private Equities rising at the southwest corner of Church Street and The Esplanade in Toronto's St Lawrence Market area. The 29-storey, architectsAlliance-designed project has been under construction since August, 2018, and had progressed a few levels above grade when we last covered the project in March, 2020.
Despite the challenges associated with physical distancing on construction sites, the last four months of work have yielded impressive progress. Forming of the building's stepped eleven-storey podium wrapped up in recent weeks, and is now being followed by the first few tower floors above. Crews are now forming the 14th floor, bringing the tower roughly halfway to its final 100-metre height.
With a comparatively small footprint compared the podium levels that preceded it—combined with repeating floor layouts—the tower floors are rising at a much faster pace, now at a rate of approximately 2.75 levels per month.
Another new development on the site is the first panel of cladding having been installed on a podium level, a window wall system with clean black aluminum mullions framing reflective glazing and louvres.
Once construction wraps up, 75 On The Esplanade will introduce 308 new condominium units to the St. Lawrence neighbourhood, as well as a mix of new shops and restaurants, plus an enhanced public realm surrounding the new building.
