The eastern municipalities of the Greater Toronto Area are rapidly filling out their urban expansion areas with new housing. Situated between higher-density development nodes in Ajax and Oshawa, Whitby is mostly seeing growth in lower densities, especially in the north end of town, where low-rise family housing is still the primary form of development. One such community currently taking shape is Ivy Ridge, a master-planned subdivision by Minto Communities GTA, well under construction at Thickson Road and Dryden Boulevard.
The community is bringing 370 single-family homes and townhomes to the area in traditional architecture styles by RN Design. All are targeting ENERGY STAR for New Homes certification.
The community has progressed a great deal since Fall, 2018 when earthworks, sewer and watermain installation, and roadway construction were prepping the new community for its rise. By Spring, 2019 the structural frames of several houses were in place, mechanical systems were being installed, and excavation for the next phase had begun.
Recent photos supplied by Minto (above and below) reveal that many more of the homes are now structurally complete, fully decked out in exterior finishes, and in many cases, only awaiting landscaping and interior detail finishing work. The first residents will be moving in this year, with additional occupancies planned for 2021 as more blocks wrap up construction.
Meanwhile, as construction of the new homes progresses, new infrastructure to serve the community was dedicated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday morning. Attended by senior Minto Communities leadership including GTA Division President David Robins and Whitby Mayor Don Mitchell, the event opened a new bridge over Pringle Creek to connect the new community along Dryden Boulevard west of Thickson Road with communities to the east.
