Among the next wave of towers set to add to the densifying skyline of Toronto's Entertainment District, the early stages of work are moving along at the Widmer and Adelaide streets site of developer Plaza's Theatre District Residence and RIU Plaza Hotel complex. This pair of Quadrangle-designed 48 and 49-storey towers will both reach heights of 156 metres, adding hundreds of new condominium residences and the first Canadian RIU Plaza Hotel to the already densely-packed district.

Approximately 15 months into construction, the project's shoring and excavation are complete, a pair of tower cranes have been raised, and crews have begun forming the four-level underground garage. We last checked in on construction in mid-April, shortly after the second crane was raised as the first signs of the foundations and P4 parking level were taking shape. Now, the majority of the P4 level is complete, and forming of the P3 level is now in full swing.

A view facing north across the site offers a cross-section of the construction progress, with P4 columns visible in the foreground, ongoing concrete pours covering a network of rebar and electrical conduits for the P3 level above, and the first signs of the P2 level starting to materialize at the far end of the site.

At the site's northeast corner—closest to the corner of Widmer and Adelaide—a scaffold is being put in place to install forms for the upcoming P2 slab, while rebar bundles protrude from the P3 level below, where supporting columns will soon extend. Another underground floor will follow before the building rises to street level, with the complex's garage to eventually contain 121 long-term spaces for condominium residents and 58 short-term spaces split between condo visitors and hotel guests.

Once complete, the complex's south tower will house 424 condominium units, while the north tower—marketed as Encore at Theatre District—will include the 353-room RIU Plaza Hotel on its first 23 floors, topped by 131 condo units in the upper 25 levels.
