Under construction since summer 2018, The Taylor will be a 36-storey, luxury rental tower in Downtown Toronto. Located at 57 Spadina Avenue, just south of King Street, the Diamond Schmitt Architects and Graziani + Corazza Architects-designed project is being developed by Tricon in partnership with MOD Developments.

We last checked in on construction in October, 2019, when forming was underway for the building's ground floor. Just over five months later, work has advanced significantly on the building's 12-storey podium, now rising three storeys above Spadina, with columns and walls taking shape for the fourth floor above. The lower two levels—with much higher ceilings than the levels above—will house 1,589 m² of retail space, including The Market By Longos, an urban concept grocery store.

These lower floors are also home to a set of canted columns that serve as an important structural element, to be a prominently visible feature in the grocery store. They can be made out in the shadowed area seen below.

Above the retail levels, levels three and four—now being formed—will eventually house 2,561 m² of office space. From here, the building's residential rental Suites will begin to take shape above. Once forming is clear of an east step-back above the eighth floor and a west step-back above the 12th floor, the tower's ascent is set to accelerate considerably due to the reduction in floor-plate size. A 22nd-floor west step-back will further speed up the process several months down the road.

Once complete, the project will bring 286 rental units to the increasingly high-density mixed-use node at King and Spadina, with The Taylor and other future towers set to create a new western height peak for the Entertainment District.
