It has been a full two years and three months since construction began for a new condominium development at the northwest corner of Sherbourne and Front in Downtown Toronto. The project by Cityzen Development Group and Fernbrook Homes will bring a pair of 26-storey, architectsAlliance-designed condominium towers to the St. Lawrence neighbourhood, with the project named St. Lawrence Condos in a nod to its vicinity.

We last checked in on construction in November, 2019, when forming was moving along for the towers' conjoined 13-storey podium. At that time, the building stood four storeys above Frederick Street at its west end, as forming lagged behind for the east end of the podium. The building has roughly doubled in size since then, with crews now working on the building's eighth floor at the west end of the site, and the seventh floor to the east.

Most recently, the first signs of exterior cladding were spotted on the west end of the podium. Dark panels of ironspot brick cladding now appear on the second and third floors, a treatment which will continue to the top of the podium. These panels will frame recessed balconies and the primary podium building envelope, a window wall cladding with clear glazing and aluminum mullions. Above the podium levels, the towers will be primarily glazed in a window wall system.

Once forming of the 13th floor wraps up, the massing will break off into the two towers, set to reach heights of 91 m / 300 ft and 88 m / 289 ft above Front Street. Expected to be completed in 2021, the building will bring 490 new homes to the area, along with new ground floor retail space.
