A block south of Toronto's iconic Gooderham Building, a major hole in the urban fabric is finally being filled in at the intersection of Church Street and The Esplanade. 75 on The Esplanade from Harhay Developments and Carttera Private Equities has been under construction since August, 2018, and a year and a half later, the 29-storey, architectsAlliance-designed condominium tower is now rising above grade.

We last checked in on the project back in October, 2019, when forming of the project's three-level underground garage had just wrapped up, and crews had begun shaping the building's ground floor. Almost five months of construction has unfolded since, and the building's podium is now in varying stages of height. Forming is now furthest along at the east end of the site, where the ground level has been topped by two additional floors, as work begins on the fourth floor in this section. To the west, forming remains one level behind, with walls and columns being placed for the third floor.

Aerial views of the site captured from the west offer a detailed look into how these floors are formed and poured. Wooden floor forms are laid across an entire floorplate, with the rebar caps of the supporting columns protruding through where they will be extended.

Once the floor forms are in place, electrical and communications conduits are laid along with a mesh of rebar. The conduits are easily identifiable in the image below as a mess of grey tubing, while the rebar is visible in both an assembled lattice and individual bundles awaiting installation.

Next, liquid concrete is placed across the form. Once the concrete is cured, the exposed vertical rebar bundles from the columns and walls below will be tied into a new level of columns and walls.

Once construction wraps up, 75 On The Esplanade will introduce 308 new condominium units to the St. Lawrence neighbourhood, as well as a mix of new shops and restaurants, plus an enhanced public realm surrounding the new building.
