A few months after the Toronto District School Board's (TDSB) Jean Lumb Public School and the Toronto Catholic District School Board's (TCDSB) Bishop Macdonell Catholic Elementary School opened as part of the new Canoe Landing Centre in CityPlace, the rest of the community centre and school complex is now wrapping up construction on the east edge of Canoe Landing Park.

Designed by ZAS Architects, the complex's educational and community wings each feature distinct architectural styles that give the different uses their own clear identities. The TDSB and TCDSB schools, located at the south end of the complex, opened their doors in January, a few months after the initial targeted opening of Fall, 2019, held back owing to some construction trade strikes that year.

Fencing has been removed from the schools' west side, linking the schools' outdoor play area with the adjacent artificial turf field at Canoe Landing Park. Practically all of the finishes are in place for the schools.

To the north, the community recreation centre and child care centre is structurally complete along the site's Fort York Boulevard frontage. Exterior finishes have almost entirely wrapped up, with a primarily glazed frontage topped by a geometric massing clad in metal panels and featuring a warm wood-finish soffit.

Finishing touches are still to be made for the complex's accessible roof, a multi-planar structure that will have active uses in sections and be a green roof in others, designed by The Planning Partnership. The City had targeted the building's completion for Spring. With the current COVID-19 situation, there is no current opening date, however.
