In just over a decade, all four corners at York and Bremner in Toronto's South Core have been populated by new towers. The last of these corners—at the southwest side of the intersection—is less than one year away from the opening of 16 York, a 32-storey, architectsAlliance and B+H Architects-designed office tower developed by Cadillac Fairview.
Construction of the office building has been ongoing since May 2017, when a ground breaking marked the start of work on the $479 million development. Over two years later, construction recently reached an important milestone with the completion of concrete forming for the building. A view of the tower's upper levels shows that the 32nd and final office level has been formed, and topped by a mechanical penthouse level above.
Cladding installation continues to enclose the tower, in the form of a reflective blue-tinted curtainwall glazing, now stretching just six levels shy of the tower’s roofline. The tower should be fully enclosed over the course of the summer.
In the meantime, the clock is ticking down to the building's promised opening date of June 1st, 2020, with interior finishing now progressing on floors sealed in by glass. Once complete, the building will introduce 879,000 ft² of new office space to the South Core area, with tenants set to include HSBC Bank Canada who are leasing 115,189 ft².
