Bookended by the tall towers of the Yonge-Eglinton and Yonge-Davisville intersections, a stretch of Yonge Street in Midtown Toronto is gradually being populated by more sensitively-scaled mid-rise development. The latest mid-rise project to begin within the neighbourhood is Uovo Boutique Residences, an 11-storey condominium development at Yonge and Hillsdale designed by RAW for The Sher Corporation.

Following the issuing of demolition permits in late April, preliminary site activity for the project has been underway since early May, when crews from Lions Demolition began to mobilize on site. Actual structural demolition of the former auto service centre on site has been ongoing since the end of May, a task which has been ramping up since last week.

The image above shows the site as it appeared on June 11th, when the building was still largely intact. The week since has seen the speed of demolition work pick up significantly. An aerial view captured on June 18th shows that the majority of the structure has been demolished, with little more than a few exterior walls still standing. Once demolition is complete, the issuing of construction permits will be a final step prior to the arrival of drilling rigs to begin the site’s shoring phase.

The completed boutique condominium development will bring 67 new homes to the neighbourhood, with residents treated to a selection of amenity spaces appointed by interior designers esQape Design.
