Toronto's Yorkville area is growing denser, not just with tall towers, but also with mid-rise developments. At the neighbourhood's north end, one such project from Dash Developments is taking shape on Avenue Road just south of Davenport. Known as Avenue 151 for the building's address, the 10-storey condominium is designed by Teeple Architects, with Giovanni A. Tassone Architects serving as Architect of Record.
We last checked in on the project in mid-January, when forming was underway for the building's eighth level. Forming has since progressed up to the tenth and final residential level. Once the top residential level is in place, forming will commence for the mechanical penthouse level that will bring the building to its final 41-metre height.
The main elevation along Avenue Road features a primarily rectilinear massing, but tight curves at the corners hint at what's to be found on to the rear of the building. There, its east elevation takes on more of a playful form with much wider curves that become an undulating wave across the balcony edges. The curves culminate with a small rectilinear area at the north end of the east facade.
The final look of the building is still nowhere in evidence yet and will only come together once cladding installation begins. A network of precast concrete frames will connect to each other via diagonal accents, forming a unique shell around the structure.
