Since the turn of the millennium, Toronto's development boom has brought an influx of one-bedroom condominiums to the city. Many of the city's recently built high-rises are dominated by smaller investor-friendly units, with a raft of suites continuing to come online each year. While a dearth of family-oriented units has created a somewhat uneven development landscape, the preponderance of compact living spaces can also lead to a relative lack of variety in layouts in living spaces, with Toronto's new-build towers sometimes composed of nearly identical suites.
Located just north of the Yonge and Sheppard area, Diamante's Diamond Condominiums on Yonge offers a slightly augmented variety of suites, with a relatively diverse collection of living spaces available. While our previous story provided a first look at some of the project's larger spaces—including a family-friendly three-bedroom unit—a closer look at one-bedroom layouts reveals a degree of variety in suite configuration.
Like most recent condominium towers, Diamond on Yonge is not lacking in one-bedroom suites, which generally tend to drive a high proportion of pre-construction sales. At 477 ft², 'Suite 5' is composed of a long, central space, with a corridor/foyer spanning the length of the unit through to the living room. Past the living room, a 77 ft² balcony runs the width of the suite, providing a relatively spacious outdoor area.
At 513 ft², 'Suite 11' is a somewhat larger one-bedroom unit, which is characterized by more clearly delineated spaces. Tucked away in the southeast-corner, the suite's somewhat enclosed foyer leads to the bathroom and laundry space, while the central living area opens out to a 41 ft² balcony.
Facing west, the 507 ft² 'Suite 8' offers another living configuration, with the bedroom and living room situated directly alongside one another. At the east end of the suite, the laundry and linen closets are clustered together with the bathroom, while the central part of the unit is taken up by the kitchen and dining area.
At 545 ft², the one-bedroom + den 'Suite 1' offers a larger space, with a 104 ft² balcony spanning the width of the suite. Both the living room and the bedroom open out to the balcony, which is 5 feet deep and slightly over 20 feet wide. Meanwhile, alongside the dining area, the east-facing unit's den can serve as a home office space.
Designed by Scott Shields Architects—with interiors appointed by the same firm—the 30-storey tower will feature a total of 385 condominium suites.
