In just one month, the St. Clair Avenue West site of Madison Homes and Fieldgate Urban's ZIGG Condos has been dramatically transformed. At the time of our last update, the site's excavation was in the process of wrapping up, with only a temporary dirt ramp remaining. Since then, a flurry of activity has marked the start of the project's climb back up to street level.
A tower crane (seen above) was installed at the site of the 11-storey, Kirkor Architects-designed condominium development at the end of April, and the first formwork for the project's below-grade levels began at the start of this month.
With the sandy soil graded and a substrate laid over much of the pit, the first columns of the project's three-level underground parking garage have been poured on the northern arm of the L-shaped site. The view above also shows the progress of a black waterproofing layer and a foundation wall lining the perimeter of the pit.
The project has moved at an impressive pace since work began in fall 2015 with the demolition of a row of houses. Shoring work began in January, followed by the start of excavation in February, and the subsequent completion of digging last month. Work is expected to continue at a rapid pace, with an ambitious construction schedule aiming for the start of precast cladding installation for October 10th, and the final formwork for December 26th. Completion of the development is currently projected for December 2017.
