New condominium development continues to transform Etobicoke's Humber Bay Shores area into a high-density waterfront community, a far cry from the area's former makeup of aging, seedy motels. Several hundred new units will soon be added to the growing neighbourhood, as construction progresses on the 49-storey Lago at the Waterfront, and the adjacent 14-storey Riva del Lago. Developed by Monarch Group—now a branch of Mattamy Homes—along with the Biddington Group, the two Graziani + Corazza Architects-designed condominium buildings are taking shape on a site bounded by Marine Parade Drive to the southeast and Lake Shore Boulevard to the northwest.
At the time of our last update just over a month ago, Lago at the Waterfront had reached a height of 21 storeys, while work on the development's shared below-grade garage structure was approaching grade in advance of Riva del Lago's 14-storey ascent. In the time since, work on Lago at the Waterfront has progressed another 8 levels, with work now under way on forming the 29th floor.
Almost all of the brick-finish precast sections have been installed over the building's four-storey podium, and the shifting balcony arrangement has become even more pronounced, with alternating four-level sections of black and white underpainting.
As Lago grows closer to its final height, the building will briefly hold the distinction of being the tallest building on Etobicoke's waterfront, though it will eventually be surpassed by Empire Communities' mammoth Eau du Soleil condos, currently being excavated a short distance to the southwest of the Lago/Riva del Lago site.
Closer to the lake than Lago at the Waterfront, below-grade structural work has been completed for the development's shared parking structure, while work on Riva del Lago's first and second above-grade levels has begun.
According to pre-construction renderings, Riva del Lago will utilize similar finishes as its larger sibling, including dark brick finishes for the building's base and alternating black and white balcony glazing.
